NFTs and Trading Cards Explained
By Thomas Rowe
You have probably heard of NFTs before. You may have heard about Nyan Cat selling for half a million dollars or celebrities like Grimes selling their own non-fungible tokens for millions. They quickly blew up in popularity, and since then have only gotten more complicated to understand.
If you have heard of crypto you may be familiar with Ethereum, where traditionally most NFT’s transactions are held. It is a way to store data without having to trust a company or entity to keep things secure and accurate. Now as long as you understand this, you can see where the fun begins with incorporating a TCG into the mix.
Video games have recently begun adding NFT’s to their software. The industry is developing rapidly, more games are made everyday as titans of the industry migrate to make the next best NFT game.

Now, the biggest issue with making these games is security—reliably keeping account of NFT’s and providing 0% risk to player’s collections. This is where TCGs have a leg up, and TCG Fandom recognized a way to make these digital assets feel close to owning the real thing. Every graded card is stored into their respective grading companies’ database. Services like PSA have a unique code generated for each individual card. TCG Fandom will use that code to create validity for the rightful owner.
So, why is this a big deal? Because it creates another opportunity for enthusiasts of trading card games to collect and trade cards! Say, for example, you are the only person in the world with a PSA 10 black lotus (one of the rarest cards in Magic: The Gathering). With TCG Fandom, you would now be able to create a NFT out of your black lotus that is associated with a real tangible asset that you own. Other collectors could now purchase the only PSA 10 Black Lotus NFT that exists.
TCG Fandom is how our favorite card games will be able to reach all types of new players and collectors that are looking to get into the NFT space, or those already in the NFT space that are unfamiliar with trading cards.
I have been playing Yu-Gi-Oh! since I first watched the movie in theaters when I was 5 years old. I love this game and believe incorporating NFTs will bring some nuance to what we currently know about trading cards.
