TCG Fandom™ Creates a New Collectible Category
By Cyberian
Traditional NFTs have not yet been able to garner widespread public appeal due to the following objection: scarcity is determined by arbitrary lines of code instead of a tangible asset. When buying a traditional NFT, your purchase is hard to assign a real-world value, since all you own is a unique string of numbers that lives on some blockchain. This string of numbers is often represented by some AI-generated 8-bit computer image that looks either weird or interesting, and sometimes both.
From a collector’s perspective, there is no affinity to the thing you’re buying; it’s often an impulsive buy based on your cursory vision of what you think that thing might be worth when you inevitably sell it. There’s no emotional connection to the thing you’re buying, no tangible asset backing the thing you’re buying, and no fundamental guarantee of scarcity like you would find with unique items in the real world. While this gambler’s mentality of buying NFTs on speculation that they can be flipped for a profit to a sucker buyer might appeal to some, many real collectors find this model unattractive and unsustainable.
TCG Fandom arrives with a solution to this problem by ushering in a new category of collectibles – the marketplace creates NFTs for you that are made from verified, real-world, third-party graded trading cards that you own! These are cards that you have an affinity to, which might have real-world scarcity like a PSA 10 with a population of 3 or less. TCG Fandom NFTs are generated from TCG trading cards that are verified to the owner, graded and encapsulated by reputable firms such as PSA card grading services (part of Collectors Universe) and Beckett Grading Service.
TCG Fandom has dramatically simplified the process of creating, buying, and selling these unique digital collectibles. Members can use debit and credit cards to buy and sell NFTs listed on TCG Fandom in addition to using cryptocurrencies. This reduces the barriers to entry for non-technically savvy TCG trading card investors and collectors, while giving them a first mover advantage in building their digital collections in the new TCG Fandom metaverse. And when they’re ready, they can list their NFTs for sale in TCG Fandom’s marketplace.
Look for me at the next big Yu-Gi-Oh! or Flesh and Blood event because I actively play these game. I love to talk game theory, banter about technology, and dream about the art of the possible. And if you’re a TCG card collector and want to connect with me directly, hit me up on Twitter.
